Dave steps out the door of the mansion with Lord Hugo and stands before the maze. It's a bright sunny day, the birds chirping, the sun shining, a light breeze ruffling the leaves of the trees. Dave pauses with Hugo before the entrance of the maze, taking in the sights. Grinning, he turns to Lord Hugo and says, "Thank you, Lord Hugo. I've heard so much about this mansion and this intriguing maze. While I expect it'll be a challenge to find the exit, I have to admit I think all this talk about it causing odd things to happen to one's self must be just a lot of malarky. So, let's see what we have here."
Dave takes a step through the maze, and stops at the point where the path goes left and right. As he looks from side to side, trying to decide which way to go, Lord Hugo says, "Choose your path, my friend. Left, Right, or the strange door behind you."
Dave blinks and turns around. "Strange door? There's no strange door behind us. That was the entrance to the....." Dave stops short at the sight of a tall, heavy, thick, oaken door. "That...that wasn't there when we came in here...," he says quiety, a touch of awe in his voice. He stands there for a moment, then, clearing his throat, standing tall, he takes hold of the door knob, turns it, and opens the door. It creaks, and groans as Dave opens it, and then...

A small room, made of the mazes hedges is behind the door. In the middle is a bowl full of crystal clear water...a voice tells you to look into the water and see your reflection. it softly whispers as the door vanishes leaving you in a room which currently has no way out.

I enter into the room, looking around. It seems perfectly normal, the hedges on three sides of me, a delicately carved glass bowl of clear water in the middle of the "room."
Then, from nowhere, and yet from all around a voice calls, telling me to look into the water. Turning around to see where the voice is coming from I find to my amazement that the door which I came through has vanished. I'm surrounded by the hedges.
Looking back toward the bowl I find myself drawn to it, by the voice or the clear water, or who knows what, I can't tell. A few steps and I'm standing by it. Looking into the water I just see nothing but water. Then, gasping, I see myself, at first like looking in a mirror, then the water starts moving, changing my reflection, my body shifting, becoming muscular, then younger, then shifting, stretching, changing into various animals, and then finally returning to my current appearance.
I start to step back when the current image fades and a new one appears. I let out another gasp as I see myself gazing into the water. What makes me gasp this time is that I see myself small enough to stand atop the rim of the bowl! I'm also not wearing a stitch of clothing, my current attire piled up in a heap at the base of the bowl. Then, the vision fades.
Shaking my head, not sure of what's going on, I look back toward the spot where I think I came in, hoping I'll find a door there once more.

There is no door, and the voice whispers once more.
"Drink. Drink"

I look around, wondering where the voice is coming from, but see no sign of anyone. Taking a deep breath, not at all sure I should be doing this, I lift the bowl up to my lips. I take a sip. The water is cool and very refreshing. I take another sip, and then another. "Oh, that's refreshing," I say as I start to raise the bowl back to my lips for one more sip.

Suddenly you feel very strange and you drop the bowl, and it falls, the water spilling everywhere, but vanishing in an instant. You then feel as if your height is shifting, getting shorter...something is up...

"Something is up, and it isn't me," as I look around as the hedges rise higher and higher around me. "What's going on? This feels so...weird...and kinda nice," I say softly, as a certain part of my anatomy reacts to the sensation. "Well, maybe at least one thing is up," I say with a slight chuckle.
A part of me knows I should be more concerned about what's happening as I continue to shrink, my clothes getting looser on me, there being no sign of Lord Hugo, or a way out of this "room" of hedges. But the sensation is so weird and so pleasant, and from the brief time I've had to know Lord Hugo and learn about this place it that things won't get too bad. At least that's the hope I cling to as my shrinking continues.
My concerns about what's happening are momentarily displaced when my now too big pants and briefs suddenly fall to the grass. I blush a bit as the cool air swirls about my bare legs. My shirt, though now hangs down low enough to keep me covered, though it too hangs very loose on my shoulders.
I look about trying to figure out just how tall I am. My best guess is that I'm now about 4 feet tall, a good 18 inches shorter than I was when I came in here.

You are still getting smaller, and you think back to how much of the water you drank. Shrinking Water...it's strange, but oddly you seem to be having fun. The shrinking continues, now making you around 3 foot tall, roughly.

I continue to look around in fascination as the hedges "grow" ever taller around me. "This is so weird," I start to say and stop short at the sound of my voice. It's squeakier, as though I'd been inhaling helium. Giggling I look down at my arms. The sleeves of my shirt hang over my hands, the bottom of my shirt hanging down to my knees.
Looking back up again I start to wonder just how small I'm going to get as I shrink to three feet tall. Checking all around there still seems to be no sign of that door. "Just how am I going to get out of here?" I say aloud, both in wondering, and also to check out my squeaky voice again. Unless the door reappears my only chance out of here might be to make my way between the leaves of the hedges. But even at 3 feet tall I'm still to big to do that.
I look back at the bowl, the memory of my recent vision of standing atop the bowl returns. I realize if I need to shrink some more I may need some more of that water. Is the bowl magical enough that it will refill itself? As I wonder I shrink under three feet tall. I decide I'd better try and turn the bowl over in case I stop shrinking at a point where I'm still to big to make it through the hedge, but too small to lift the bowl.
As I take a step toward the bowl, my shirt falls off my shoulders and crumples to a heap on the ground, leaving me stark naked. Blushing a bit, but thankful that that certain portion of my anatomy is back to a more relaxed state, I step over and place my small hands under the lid of the bowl and tip it back upright, grunting a bit since it's now much heavier for me in my reduced state.
I gaze at the bowl and then back at the hedges, checking to see if I'm still shrinking, and wondering again just how small I am going to get.

You turn around, and finally a door has appeared, but as you get closer, you are still getting smaller. Will you be able to reach the handle, or will you have to crawl underneath the door?

I dash toward the door, watching as it looms larger and larger, seemingly getting farther and farther away with each step as I continue to get smaller smaller. By the time I reach the door I'm under two feet tall. I look up at the door knob, so near and yet so far as it rises higher from my point of view.
I try standing on tiptoe and my fingers are just barely able brush the knob for a moment before it "rises" out of my reach. I jump, hoping I'll be able to reach it, but I've shrunk too much to leap high enough. I land and try again, the handle getting more and more distant as I shrink down to 11 inches tall, and then 10.
I stop jumping and stare upwards at the handle that looks like it's now miles away. I look down at the bottom of the door and see a small crack between it and the ground. The blades of grass are knee high to me now and rising taller as I continue shrinking. In seconds I've dwindled down small enough to fit under the door. Dropping down to my knees I quickly make my way under the door, the space becoming roomier as I make my way to the other side of the door.
By the time I reach that side I've already been able to stand back up, with a good deal of room above the top of my head and the bottom of the door. I stand and look around, the grass blades now looking taller than redwood trees to me. I look around and then cup my hands around my mouth. "Lord Hugo!" I call as loud as I can with my squeaky voice.

He isn't around at the moment, you gather when suddenly you see anoter bowl of water in front of you, whispering to you as before. Perhaps this is your ticket out of this perdiciment.

I blink in surprise at the sudden appearance of another bowl of water, and again that mysterious voice bidding me to drink from it. The bowl towers above me. I note with some relief that it doesn't get any taller. My shrinking has come to a stop at last. However, I'm now the size of a tiny bug, a very tiny bug. At first I don't see any possible way of making such a climb to the top, but then realize that the etched lines in the glass are so big to me now that they make perfect handholds.
It takes several minutes to make it to the top, but I finally achieve my goal. Panting, I stand atop the rim of the glass, feeling exhilarated to have made it up the glass mountain. I look down at the water, again seeing my reflection, only this time the reflection is real, I am that small, and I am standing on the rim.
Suddenly there's a chuckle from behind me. "Hey, look at the shrimp!" a squeaky voice calls out. Whirling my head my jaw drops in amazement as I stare at who spoke. It's a mouse, though instead of being on all fours, he stands on two legs. While he's no bigger than a typical mouse, to me he looks like he's 10 or 15 feet tall. He's also quite well developed physically, with a broad, muscular chest, small, solid waist, and thick legs. Grinning down at me he plucks off a small chunk of cheese that he holds in one of his paws. He leans down and peers closely at me. "Kinda short for a human, ain't cha?" he asks before popping the bit of cheese into his mouth.
"You're...you're a mouse!" I say, still gaping.
"Oh, you don't miss a thing, do ya, shorty?" He says as he stands back up straight.
"But you're talking!" I say, still staring in amazement.
"Yeah, well so are you."
"But...but mice don't talk!"
"Uh huh. This from the guy who's smaller than an ant," he says with a smirk as he pops another piece of cheese into his mouth
I start to respond, but I realize there's no way I can argue. Why should a mouse being able to talk be any more impossible than my finding myself a fraction of an inch tall.
"Anyway," the mouse continues, "you better try taking a drink of that water like the voice says."
Nodding I turn and look down at the water. While the bowl is nearly full, the water doesn't quite reach the rim. I kneel down to try and take a sip, but the water is still out of reach. I lean forward some more, and then a little more. My lips are almost touching the water when a squeaky voice comes from right behind me. "Oh, go on in! You'll never get enough water, that way," the mouse says with a laugh as he pushes me into the water.
I land with a splash, so surprised I take a couple of gulps of water as I try to right myself and swim to the surface. Sputtering and shaking my head I swim to the edge and manage to pull myself out and stand at the rim. "What's the big idea?!" I sputter as I stand there dripping while glaring up at the mouse who's shaking with laughter. "What's the matter, smallfry, you don't like to go skinny-dipping?" he says through his laughter.

You feel yourself start to get taller, but you aren't getting much taller...only about as tall as the mouse, you notice.
"What a gip" you mumble...
"You thought it would make you a big boy again, did you?" the mouse says chuckling.
